A little care goes a long way!
Our jewellery is made to be worn, loved and enjoyed. While our 18k gold-plated pieces are tarnish resistant, they still require proper care to help maintain their colour, shine and finish over time.
Gold plating can naturally wear with regular use, so following a few simple care steps will help keep your Merlo & Co. pieces looking their best.
KEEP IT DRY
To protect the gold plating, minimise exposure to water and moisture. We recommend removing your jewellery before:
- Showering or bathing
- Swimming in pools or the ocean
- Exercising or activities that cause excessive sweating
- Sleeping
Exposure to water, chlorine, salt water and prolonged moisture may cause the plating to fade or wear more quickly.
STORE WITH CARE
When you’re not wearing your jewellery, store each piece separately in a jewellery pouch in a cool, dry place.
Keeping pieces separate helps prevent scratching, tangling and unnecessary friction that may wear down the plating over time.
CLEAN GENTLY
To clean your jewellery, gently wipe it with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth after wearing. This helps remove oils, moisture and residue that can build up with everyday wear.
Avoid harsh chemicals, jewellery cleaners, polishing agents and abrasive cloths, as these may damage or remove the gold plating.
LOVE YOUR PIECES
Our pieces are designed to be tarnish resistant, but no gold-plated jewellery is completely immune to wear over time. The longevity of your jewellery will depend on how often it is worn, your individual skin chemistry and how it is cared for.
